Body Image
This is work I have real, solid experience with. It matters to me, with people of any gender. Body image pressure does not only show up as a drive for thinness. For men, it often looks like pressure around muscularity, leanness or a body that performs a certain kind of strength. It can be just as consuming and is often under-discussed.
For a lot of people, body image struggles trace back to a specific moment, or a slow accumulation of moments, when occupying your body first stopped feeling safe. A comment. A comparison. A change nobody explained. Something shifted and your body stopped feeling like a place where you lived and started feeling like something to manage, hide or fix.
Part of this work is going back to meet that younger version of you, the one who first learned that lesson. We help them understand what actually happened, not from a place of blame, but from a place of care they may not have gotten at the time.
Self-Love Is a Practice, Not a Feeling
bell hooks wrote about love as something you do, not something that simply happens to you. Love is a set of actions and choices rather than a feeling that either shows up or does not. I bring that same idea into this work. Loving yourself, including how you feel about your body, is not about waking up one day and suddenly feeling different. It is built through small, repeated choices, how you speak to yourself, what you allow yourself to need, whether you treat yourself with the same care you would offer someone you love.
What This Work Looks Like
We gently go back to where this started and look at what that younger version of you actually needed in that moment. We talk honestly about family, culture and specific experiences that shaped how you see your body now and what has kept those patterns going since. We work on noticing the voice in your head when you look in a mirror or get dressed and on building a different one. One that speaks to you the way you would have wanted someone to speak to that younger self.
This is not about forcing positivity you do not feel. It is about building something more honest and more sustainable than either hating your body or performing happiness about it.
What This Page Is Not
This is not a weight loss page, and I do not offer diet or exercise advice. If disordered eating is part of what you are navigating, that deserves focused, specialized support. I am happy to talk about whether I am the right fit or help connect you with additional resources.
